Finding the ideal professional for Scotland wedding photography is a daunting issue, as you’re confiding in a stranger to take photos of the most important day of your life! Therefore, it is recommended to hire an artist whose work you enjoy and with whom you enjoy working with.
I receive a lot of wedding inquires and couples simply inform me the date of their wedding and request if I’m available. It’s a good place to start but to receive a fair price from a photographer for your wedding you should tell them a bit about the wedding you’re planning and what you’re seeking, so they can provide a wealth of specifics.
When I receive an inquiry filled with details I am able to get a greater idea of the couple’s personality and their wedding plans. I can offer a wedding price that is specific to their wedding. I will also give additional details.
This is a good start:
What is the date of your wedding (the photographer can confirm immediately, to see in case the date is open in their calendar). Sometimes, I receive an “vague” request. The couple may know that their wedding date is Summer next year, however, they aren’t sure of a date. It is best to begin contacting photographers once you have an exact date set in the calendar.
Where is your wedding location. Why is it important? Your photographer may have been there. They can provide you with images of the wedding they took there, and give you an idea of their style.
How many guests will be attending your wedding. If you have only 10 guests at your wedding, the photographer will give you a few sample photos that show intimate weddings. If you’re hosting 200 guests attending your wedding An unexperienced wedding photographer is probably not the best choice to undertake the task.
A brief description of your wedding plans It is possible to give the photographer additional details about your weddingday, the plans you have and the timings.
Two photographers or one? Do you think that you need two photographers, or will just one suffice? The fact that a majority of photographers include two photographers as part of their package doesn’t mean they’re essential for your wedding.
How long will the photographer to be there? You should think about the length of time you’d like your photographer to capture photos during your wedding. Do you want pictures taken during the wedding preparations? Do you need pictures of the groom getting ready as well (this means you’ll require two photographers at least early in the early hours of morning!)? Do you wish them to stay until speeches are over or do you require photographers to be present till the dancing begins at night?
What do you want to receive following your wedding? Are you satisfied with all the pictures on a USB flash drive? Do you want to create an album for your wedding that includes the best of your wedding photographs? Or , do you desire both – an album and USB? Do you wish to get an enormous frame to hang on your wall? Do you wish to have parent albums or are you in search of an assortment of prints that could be displayed throughout your home?
You’ve identified your wedding photographer This is the information they’ll require
I am extremely organised for weddings! It’s like SUPER organized! I ask for a lot of details from the couple a few weeks prior to the wedding to make me more organized and will ensure that I’m not the cause for the wedding being delayed on the day of the wedding.
Here’s what I’d like to know and the reason:
How are the brides getting ready? I want to know where she’s traveling from, the time it takes to travel to the wedding venue and what could be the possible concerns pertaining to this (based on my own experience)
How is the wedding party getting ready? (as previously mentioned).
The names of the first names for both of the parents. I’ll learn their names in advance of the wedding to ensure that I be able to address them properly on the day of the wedding.
The names of the first names of siblings, bridesmaids or bridesmaids The Best Man and and the Ushers – this allows me find those who are right for the day of the wedding.
The bride must decide when she will need to leave for the wedding and when? (what kind of transportation)
What time is the groom’s arrival in the venue?
When will the ceremony begin?
What kind of ceremony do you want to have? (Religious, humanist, civil service)
What time will the ceremony run?
The celebrant’s name is who? (so I could adress them properly)
Who will take the first step down the aisle? Flowergirls, Bridesmaids, or the bride – in what order?
Are there any surprises planned for the ceremony or after the ceremony, or during dinner or at the reception or during the celebrations in the evening?
Can confetti be used in the venue or church?
How do guests travel from the ceremony location to the reception location? (walk, drive)
What is the time frame in the evening for reception?
Is there a piper in the church, or for the couple to be announced in the room for dinner?
What time will guests be requested to enter the dining area?
What time are speeches? Following dinner or at the reception? Are there any speakers?
There will be any receiving lines, If so, when?
When is it acceptable for the couple to take photos? (I also consider the season – in Scotland the sunset can be quite early in winter. I’ll try to get photographs of the couple right after the ceremony so that I can capture the last little bit of light in Winter wedding ceremonies).
What time during the reception is the best time for family photos? (so that the couple are aware of the event is planned).
What are the family photographs that are a necessity for the groom and bride?
What is the wedding venue’s coordinator’s name? (so I can contact them prior to the wedding and confirm the time of the wedding)
When do you want for cutting the cake? In the days before the speeches, prior to your first dance?
When will the band begin? What time will the first dance begin?
Do the couple have any specific requests?
With all the information I have I then create what I refer to as”a “job sheet” that I carry on me and on my mobile. In all instances when you get married I know what’s likely to happen, when, whom, who could help me (ushers) or who I should contact to get certain items, etc.
The more your photographer is aware of your wedding, the better more prepared.
If I am taking photographs at a location I’ve never visited previously, I’ll be sure to go to the location a couple of weeks before the wedding date and talk to the wedding coordinator regarding the timeframes for your day and the things I need to keep an eye out for.
